The SUNY Cortland Alumni Association considers students alums from the first day they start college. This is what we mean when we refer to our "Alum From Day One" mentality. As such, there are many ways for students to get involved, whether it's networking opportunities, career development, creating events and experiences to connect students and alumni, internships, or any of the offerings below.
Take advantage of all of the opportunities the SUNY Cortland Alumni Association can offer you while still in college!
Alumni Engagement, with the Student Government Association (SGA), sponsors the Student Alumni Association (SAA).The members of SAA are student leaders who promote stronger ties between alumni and current students. They plan special events to bring together students, alumni and the community, connect and network with SUNY Cortland alumni, and participate in professional development by attending CASE ASAP conferences. SAA helps to promote the Alumni Association and its many activities and programs to students. We invite all students to consider joining SAA as a member, or in a leadership capacity.

Each semester, alumni from various professions will speak on panels to share their experience, insight, and answer student questions. These events are co-sponsored by Alumni Engagement and Career Services. All students are strongly encouraged to attend sessions outside of their major. It is a great way to network with alumni, both in and out of your field!
Alumni – interested in speaking on one of these panels or other opportunities that may arise on campus? Fill out our alumni speaker interest form.
Doing Business in NYC is a two-part program to help students make career connections with alumni in the NYC metro area and practice their networking skills. A handful of alumni have graciously offered to host students at their place of business in the afternoon. Then, in the evening, all students and alumni are invited to our annual networking reception.
Doing Business will not be held in 2024. We apologize for this inconvenience.
The Alumni Association is always willing to partner with student clubs and organizations. We help with bringing alumni speakers to campus as well as advertising your upcoming events to alumni. Clubs also may send their newsletters to alumni with advance notice. Contact us at alumni@cortland.edu to inquire about a partnership opportunity.
Students may apply each semester for a position. Interns work on multiple tasks that involve reaching out to SUNY Cortland's alumni and will learn skills in event planning, marketing, social media, public relations, advertising, and much more. It is the hope that they will gain experience to build interpersonal skills with co-workers, alumni and other students. This is a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in connecting current students and alumni. There are internships available with Alumni Engagement, the Parks Alumni House, The Cortland Fund and the Development office.
The SUNY Cortland Alumni Association offers the opportunity for members of the college community, including student groups, to apply for a grant for events and programs that promote the collaboration of the College and Alumni Association. Any member, group, club or organization within the college community can apply for this grant. Applications will be expected the semester prior to the event date. All grant submissions will be reviewed by the Alumni Association's Programming Committee. Details about the program can be found on the alumni grant program page.
