The 2024 award winners will be presented at the Alumni Reunion on July 13, 2024. Please keep an eye out for information regarding the 2025 application process, which will be available in summer 2024.
The awards program recognizes outstanding SUNY Cortland alumni and friends of the university for their accomplishments and contributions to the community. Recipients serve as role models and represent the diverse career fields of our graduates, including education, health sciences/medicine, athletics, research, business and the arts.
These awards recognize Cortland alumni and friends of the university for distinguishing themselves in their careers and communities, and/or rendering exceptional service to SUNY Cortland or the Alumni Association. The results of these efforts bring honor to the graduate and to the university. These are the highest honors the Alumni Association bestows.
The following awards are presented annually by the SUNY Cortland Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Before completing the Nomination form, please write a letter of recommendation for your candidate. Please focus your letter on the criteria below. You will be asked to upload your letter as a PDF. Self-nominations are appropriate. Simply complete the Nomination form and place your name in the nominee section. You should submit a letter of recommendation from a peer as outlined below. You will be asked for an additional letter as you continue through the process.
A letter of nomination is required in order for the application to be complete. It will be important when writing the letter to include how the nominee meets the following criteria:
Honorary Alumni awardees are nominated by the university of SUNY Cortland Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Created in 2006, the Academic Hall of Fame recognizes alumni who graduated 10 or more years ago with honors and have made significant contributions to society. The Hall of Fame wall is located in the Dorothea “Dottie” Kreig Allen Fowler ’52, M ’74 Old Main Grand Entrance Hall.
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
Nominees are considered by a committee consisting of faculty members and administrators from SUNY Cortland’s three schools: arts and sciences, education and professional studies. Student representatives from each school may be recruited for committee service as well. A representative from the Alumni Board of Directors Awards, Scholarship and Recognition Committee also serves on the committee.
