SUNY Cortland students are alumni today

The SUNY Cortland Alumni Association considers students alums from the first day they start college. As such, there are many ways for students to get involved in creating exciting experiences and memories that will last a lifetime. We invite all students to consider joining SPARK as a member, or a leader, to ensure Cortland traditions occur each year. Take advantage of alumni networking opportunities every semester through Alumni Engagement or the Lynne Parks '68 SUNY Cortland Alumni House. Look for advertising via email, social media and posters around campus.

Get ready to SPARK!

Alumni Engagement, with the Student Government Association (SGA), sponsors SPARK. The SPARK diplomats are student leaders who are the tradition keepers of SUNY Cortland. They plan special programs and participate in CASE ASAP conferences. SPARK helps to promote the Alumni Association and its many activities and programs to students.

SPARK coordinates and assist with three major events each year: Red Dragon Homecoming , the Moving Up Day Rock Ceremony and Senior Send-Off, for the graduating students in May. Be sure to follow on Twitter or "LIKE" us on Facebook to get timely information about being involved with the SPARK.

Alumni Speaker Series

This fall and spring there will be opportunities to hear from alumni experts on campus from many disciplines. These events are co-sponsored by Alumni Engagement and Career Services. All students are strongly encouraged to attend sessions outside of their major.

  • Communication Studies: Monday, October 2, 2017 at 7 p.m. in the Corey Union Fireplace Lounge.

  • Sport Management: Monday, November 6, 2017 at 7 p.m. in the Corey Union Exhibition Lounge
  • Alumni Sharing Knowledge (A.S.K.)

The newest way to connect with alumni will launch during the semester break for all current students. A.S.K. is a professional networking program for students to engage SUNY Cortland alumni who want to help you answer those questions about life after graduation. Details of the new program are online.

    Volunteer Opportunities

There are many activities that students can help with each semester with the Alumni Association. Students help with events at the college as well as regional opportunities. If you are interested in helping with an upcoming event or initiative, please contact Erin Boylan, Executive Director of Alumni Engagement, directly at erin.boylan@cortland.edu.

    Student Club Involvement

The Alumni Association is always willing to partner with student clubs and organizations. We help with bringing alumni speakers to campus as well as advertise your upcoming events with graduates. Clubs also may send their newsletters to alumni with advance notice. Contact us at alumni@cortland.edu with your partnership opportunity.

    Internship Program

Students may apply, each semester, for a position working as an intern in Alumni Engagement. Interns work on multiple tasks that involve reaching out to SUNY Cortland's alumni, interns will learn skills in event planning, social media, public relations, advertising, Web designing and much more. It is the hope that they will gain experience to build interpersonal skills with co-workers, alumni and other students. This is a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in connecting with our current students and alumni. There are internships available in Alumni Engagement and the Parks Alumni House.

Other programs include, Red Dragon Homecoming, Moving Up Day and Senior Send-Off
